City of Beaumont's Recycling Pilot
Project
The City has established a
committee to review the feasibility of a full recycling program in
Beaumont. Currently, citizens can recycle the items listed below
through programs run by, or located within the city.
Paper, Plastic and Glass
The City encourages citizens to bring recyclable materials to Gulf
Coast Recycling, located at 1995 Cedar Street, at the corner of
Fourth and Cedar. Click

They have a recycling drop off center at the front of the plant that
operates 24/7 for your convenience.

The City recycles yard waste
through our composting program. Approximately 25 percent of all
materials collected at the curb by city trucks is composted, and a
significant amount of the finished compost is returned to citizens
at no cost. To compost, yard waste must be separated from all other
trash. Please bag your small yard waste (grass, leaves, and small
branches) for weekly collection on your garbage collection day. Do
not put small yard waste in your garbage can. Separate large yard
waste from all other trash for collection twice a month. For
complete information on the City’s solid waste collection program,
including schedules and instructions, click
here.
Motor Oil
The collection and recycling
of used motor oil is a service provided by the City. Used motor oil
and filters generated from "do-it-yourself" oil changes are
collected from curbside each garbage collection day. A limit of five
gallons is can be collected at a time.
Please follow these guidelines
to ensure that your used motor oil is collected and recycled:
·
Drain used motor oil into plastic clear or opaque white containers
with screw-on caps.
·
Never mix oil with other fluids. Any substance other than used motor
oil will contaminate the oil.
·
Make sure the cap is screwed on tightly and lid is taped shut to
prevent spillage.
·
Place gallon jugs at the curb on your collection day (place jugs
approximately three feet from the garbage can and/or small yard
waste)
·
Empty used jugs will be left on the curb to be used for future oil
changes.
· NOTE: Used oil filters will also be collected curbside. Place oil filter in a plastic bag next to the oil for curbside collection.
Household Hazardous Waste and Scrap Tire Collection:
Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) is defined as
home-generated materials that includes products such as paints,
paint thinners, solvents, pesticides, insecticides, herbicides,
fertilizers, automotive waste, cleaning agents, swimming pool
chemicals, photographic materials, batteries, mercury containing
items, and fluorescent bulbs.
Depending upon the availability of funding, the Southeast Texas
Regional Planning Commission (SETRPC) conducts free Household
Hazardous Waste and Scrap Tire Collection Events where Southeast
Texans can dispose of hazardous materials free of charge. During
the past several collection events, a scrap tire collection event
has also been held in conjunction with the HHW events.
For more information about the next Household Hazardous Waste and
Scrap Tire Collection Event, call (409) 899-8444 ext. 6603 or visit
