UPDATE: Calder
Street Project
Update for the week of
November 19, 2009
The Calder Street Project Phase I
began construction on July 7, 2008. The project limits
of this phase of the project are from the Neches River
to just west of ML King Parkway. The Box Installation
has been completed for the South and North runs from the
Neches River to the end of the project. Reytec plans on
having the M.L. King / Calder intersection open with the
traffic signals in operation this week.
The concrete pavement has been installed on
Calder to the radii of return on M.L. King. Reytec plans
on installing brick pavers, decorative lighting, traffic
signals, landscaping and bicycle lanes on Calder Avenue
as part of the project. Reytec continues to install
signage from Main St. to M.L. King on Calder Avenue this
week. Reytec continues to work on the section of
pavement from Magnolia Avenue to M.L. King on Calder.
Calder will remain open to thru traffic, however,
Reytec will have traffic control set up in this
section to complete the sidewalk construction.
The project is ahead of schedule with 92%
complete.
The Calder Street Project Phase II
began construction on August 17, 2009. The project
limits of this phase of the project are from just west
of M.L. King Parkway to IH 10 east R.O.W. The contractor
BRH Garver plans on installing box culverts and
relocating water and sanitary sewer this week. On August
25, 2009 the road will be closed from 1st street to 4th
street for approximately 111 days. Only local access and
emergency vehicles will have access. Today BRH Garver
will continue excavating material from the Calder
roadway between 3rd street and 4th
street on the north run of box. Garver has install box
from 1st to 3rd street on both
runs as of this week. The north run of box will approach
4th street this week to match the south run.
Material will be transported in and out of the project
site along North Street. Residents on North street from
1st street to IH 10 please be aware of the
increase in truck traffic in this area. The water and
sanitary sewer relocation will continue to 7th
street this weeks. We will give an update in advance of
the future street closures. 4th street was
closed to thru traffic on Monday October 12, 2009 for
water relocation work. Garver plans on continuing water
and sewer relocation between 7th and 8th
streets this week. Traffic will be controlled to one
lane in each direction.

UPDATE: Gladys Street Project
|
Improvements to Gladys Street, planned
from the IH-10 West Frontage Road to Dowlen Road, are
scheduled to begin in 2011.
PLEASE NOTE
-
Plans
for a continuous turn lane between Edson and Dowlen have
been changed. The city no longer plans to add a
continuous turn lane on this section of Gladys.
-
The
city installs sidewalks during each road construction
project. The installation of sidewalks on both sides of
Gladys for the entire length of the project will be
discussed on Thursday, Oct. 8, at 6 p.m., at the Rogers
Park Community Center. Residents are invited to
participate.
-
The
city is surveying Gladys Street to identify property
corners, pavement widths, street intersections, natural
ground and infrastructure elevations, public and
city-owned utilities, driveways, drainage structures,
and more. Stakes or other markers placed in yards are an
indication of public right-of-way, and do not indicate
points to which Gladys will be widened. They are a
routine aspect of surveying during any project's
engineering phase.
Although specifics
regarding individual properties are not known at this time,
residents may contact the city concerning the overall
project by calling city services at 311, or the Engineering
Division at 880-3725.
