DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential Job Functions: Supervises a field survey crew; assigns and reviews work of survey crew; gathers information for preparation of maps, sketches and drawings; ensures that information is recorded properly in field notes; records and reduces survey notes; lays out and stakes construction projects; reviews and interprets construction plans and specifications; makes and checks calculations; prepares metes and bounds descriptions of easements and rights-of-way; establishes street center lines, easements and rights-of-way; uses survey instruments such as transit, level and total station with data collector; assures proper care and maintenance of survey instruments and equipment.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Works inside and outside in all kinds of weather; may be exposed to traffic hazards while surveying on streets. Must be available for work Monday through Friday 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., extended hours when necessary.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge: Knowledge of principles, practices, and instruments used in surveying and civil engineering work; knowledge of mathematics through trigonometry and its application to field surveying and engineering computations.

Skills/Abilities: Ability to perform engineering computations and to compile engineering data and statistics; ability to read and interpret blueprints, plans and specifications; ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with engineering and surveying personnel, contractors and the public; ability to supervise the work of a field survey crew; skill in the use of surveying instruments, related appliances and equipment.

Physical/Requirements: Constantly sees and hears, stands, walks, reads and writes by hand; frequently climbs, sits, squats, stoops, twists body, bends, reaches, kneels, cleans, drives, uses calculator, performs data entry, carries up to 10-25 lbs, lifts up to 25-40 lbs, pulls up to 10-25 lbs, pushes up to 10-25 lbs, and requires stamina; infrequently crawls, sorts, answers telephone, digs, operates a 2-way radio and holds up to 10-25 lbs; uses measuring equipment and physical dexterity.

Education/Experience: Graduation from high school including or supplemented by courses in geometry, trigonometry and surveying; at least five (5) years surveying experience including six (6) months experience in supervising a small crew.

Other: Must possess a valid Class C driver's license with a good driving record. Other state valid Driver's License equivalent to Texas Class C with a good driving record will be considered. Texas state law requires within 30 days of residency, you must possess a valid Texas driver's license. Applicant selected for hire will be subject to a background investigation and drug/alcohol screen test.
